A 445-gram tumor was removed from the neck of Mehmet Eymen, a baby born at 34 weeks in Kütahya. Prof. Dr. Tayfun Aydın, an Anesthesia and Reanimation Specialist at Kütahya City Hospital, stated that the critical surgery was successfully completed, saying, "This is scientifically the seventh case in the world. We are all happy to have performed this operation, which will be recorded in the medical literature, together with our entire team."
During the 32nd week of her pregnancy, Fatma Kara, who lives in the city, was informed during a doctor's check-up that there was a tumor around her baby's neck that was preventing him from breathing. Specialists from various fields such as obstetrics, pediatric surgery, anesthesia, neonatology, and ear, nose, and throat came together at Kütahya City Hospital to prepare an operation plan to keep the baby alive. In the 34th week of her pregnancy, Kara gave birth to a baby boy via cesarean section.
THE 445 GRAM TUMOR WAS SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED The baby, named Mehmet Eymen, was found to have a blocked airway during birth. A tracheostomy device was placed to allow air passage to the trachea, enabling Mehmet Eymen Kara to breathe. After a critical intervention lasting approximately 12 minutes, the baby was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit. After spending 6 weeks in neonatal intensive care, Mehmet Eymen was prepared for surgery and underwent the operation. The 3.7-kilogram baby had a 445-gram tumor successfully removed that was obstructing his breathing.
SEVENTH CASE IN THE WORLD Prof. Dr. Tayfun Aydın, an Anesthesia and Reanimation Specialist at Kütahya City Hospital, stated that the problem faced by Mehmet Eymen was the seventh case in the world. He expressed that the successful completion of the life-threatening operation made everyone happy, saying, "If we had not taken this baby out with a procedure we call 'exit procedure', this baby would not have had a chance to survive. From this baby, who was born weighing 3 kilograms and 700 grams, we removed a tumor weighing approximately 445 grams a week later. Today, finally, we are smiling too, the baby will be discharged. Being at the forefront of such an event is really a very proud thing. We are all happy because we performed an operation that will go down in medical literature together with our entire team, thank you very much."
Neonatologist Dr. Musa Turgut stated that it is a very rare condition, saying, "We are very pleased that we have now reached a level where we can discharge our baby from a serious respiratory distress situation in his neck. I would like to thank everyone who contributed once again."
"IT WAS A VERY CHALLENGING PROCESS FOR US" Mehmet Eymen's mother, Fatma Kara, expressed their happiness, saying: "We are very happy right now. May God bless our doctors. They all put in a lot of effort, they all worked hard. We thank them all very much. At that moment, it was a very bad situation for a mother. I wish no one experiences what I went through as a mother. It was a very challenging process for us."
It was stated that Mehmet Eymen, who was taken to the neonatal unit after the operation and whose health condition is good, will be discharged shortly.
