It was claimed that the ship, which was anchored off the coast of Gemlik Bay and allegedly loaded with ammonia, spread the smell due to leaving its ventilation hatches open. The ship was removed from the shore by the teams of the Coast Guard Southern Marmara Group Command. It was stated that the captain of the ship anchored offshore would be questioned regarding the crime of 'deliberately polluting the environment.'
STATEMENT FROM THE MUNICIPALITY
Regarding the ammonia smell felt on the beaches of Karacaali, Küçükkumla, and Büyükkumla, a statement came from the Gemlik Municipality. Gemlik Mayor Şükrü Deviren stated that measurements made by Neighborhood Disaster Volunteers and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Threats (CBRN) teams did not reveal any negative situation, saying, "All our citizens can be at ease."
