A significant development occurred in the murder case of Aynur Kanbur, a former member of the Mezdeke dance group who was killed in Istanbul 10 years ago. It was learned that the detained suspect, Bülent Gündüz, confessed to the murder, saying in his statement, "Her being a belly dancer hurt my pride." It was also revealed that Gündüz remained composed after the murder and continued working his shift.
In a striking development 10 years later in the murder of Aynur Kanbur (49), a former member of the Mezdeke dance group who died in a armed attack in 2016 in Istanbul's Şişli district, it was learned that Bülent Gündüz, detained in an operation following the reopening of the unsolved case file, confessed to the murder.
"HER BEING A DANCER HURT MY PRIDE"
It was claimed that Bülent Gündüz, who reportedly admitted his guilt in his first statement to the police, said he was a distant relative of Aynur Kanbur and explained his motive for the murder with the words, "Her being a dancer hurt my pride."
It was also learned that the suspect stated he threw the weapon used in the incident into the Istanbul Bosphorus after the murder.
"I WAS SUFFERING FROM REMORSE"
According to information reflected in the investigation file, Gündüz said, when detained by police, "If you hadn't caught me, I would have surrendered. I was suffering from remorse. I was waiting for my children to grow up."
It was stated that the suspect claimed he planned the murder alone without anyone's direction.
HE CONTINUED HIS WORK AFTER THE MURDER
It was learned that Bülent Gündüz, identified as a pastry chef, continued his daily life after the murder and went to his workplace to continue his shift.
The suspect, who has a previous record for injury in police records, is still undergoing processing at the police department.
OTHER SUSPECTS DENIED ALLEGATIONS OF BEING INSTIGATORS
Meanwhile, Aynur Kanbur's relatives Yüksel K. and Serdar K., detained as instigators in the same incident, reportedly stated during their police interrogations that they had no involvement in the murder.
EXTENDED DETENTION ORDER ISSUED
It was stated that an "extended detention order" was issued for the suspects still undergoing police processing.
CASE REOPENED AFTER 10 YEARS
In the investigation conducted under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspects of the murder were reached years later as a result of HTS, base station, and Istanbulkart analyses. Within the scope of the operation, Fazlı Kar and Serdar Kar, who were alleged to be instigators along with Bülent Gündüz, were also detained.
While it was learned that the other suspects did not accept the charges, the investigation continues in multiple directions.
