With the rise in air temperatures in Erzincan, a spider known as 'Sarıkız' has been spotted.
A spider from the Solifugae order, commonly known as a "camel spider," was found motionless in front of a workplace. Causing brief unease in the area, the spider was removed by the business owner. The "camel spider" is also known as a "killer" due to its powerful jaw bite.
"I SAW IT WHILE CLEANING, I WAS VERY SCARED"
The creature seen in front of a shop in the Karaağan neighborhood of the district center caused brief unease in the area. Shop owner Kenan Mutlu stated that he noticed the camel spider while cleaning after opening his workplace in the morning. Mutlu, expressing that he was scared at first, said, "I was very scared when I first saw it. Later, I realized it was motionless and dead. I removed it from in front of the shop."
MORE COMMON IN HOT WEATHER
The creature, which is more frequently seen in hot weather and commonly called a "camel spider," is not actually a spider but an arthropod belonging to the Solifugae order. Notable for its strong jaw structure, it feeds on insects, scorpions, small lizards, and similar creatures. Typically active at night, this species avoids light.
NOT VENOMOUS BUT DANGEROUS
Despite its frightening appearance, the camel spider is not venomous and has no direct lethal effect; however, due to its strong jaw muscles, it can cause extremely painful bites. Experts recommend that if bitten by a camel spider, the wound should be immediately washed with plenty of soapy water and covered with a sterile cloth to prevent infection. It is crucial to seek medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility without delay due to the risk of infection and potential tissue damage, and to check tetanus vaccination status.
