The murder suspect, who killed the wife of the building caretaker he argued with in the building he went to in order to kill his wife, who was in the process of divorce, reportedly tried to break down the door of his wife's house with an axe on the day of the incident but was unsuccessful.
In Kayseri, the stabbing murder of Melek Gül, the building attendant, by her husband who is in the process of divorce, has caused a great uproar. As the details of the incident emerge, it has been learned that the murder suspect attempted to break down the door of the house where his wife lived with an axe.
"HE HAD INSTALLED A CAMERA IN THE HOUSE"
Yasemin Ş, a retired nurse and mother of two, stated in a press conference that she had been experiencing problems in her marriage with the suspect, İlhan Ş, since the early years of their 29-year marriage. Yasemin Ş mentioned that after her husband retired, they settled in their hometown Kayseri, saying, "Even though we spent 24 hours together, he started to follow me. He installed a camera in the entrance of the house and was constantly monitoring it from his phone."
FOUND IN THE TRNC WHERE THEY FLED TO ESCAPE
Yasemin Ş claimed that her husband, from whom she had obtained a restraining order, had a travel ban abroad due to another crime, and that she fled to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with her younger son on June 12, 2024, to protect herself, but he continued to disturb her there.
She explained that when her husband's travel ban was lifted, he came to the TRNC, argued with their acquaintances who were trying to protect them, and served four months in prison for threats, stating that they had to return to Turkey on June 18, 2025.
"HE STARTED ATTACKING THE DOOR WITH AN AXE"
Yasemin Ş noted that the murder suspect frequently violated the restraining order, injured his mother with a hammer, and spent two months in prison for this crime, recounting: "On the day of the incident, while I was watching television, the electricity suddenly went out. I quickly locked the door in three places. As soon as I locked it, he started attacking the door with an axe. I said, 'Get away, I'm calling the police.' Despite that, he continued to hit the door with the axe without stopping. When he realized he couldn't break the door and that we had called the police, he left."
"HE BROUGHT ALL THE MATERIALS TO KILL US"
I learned from the police that Melek Gül (the building attendant's wife) had been killed. Melek Gül's relatives came to express their condolences. We shared our mutual grief. Before coming here, he had called the attendant. He told the attendant that he would bring a gift. The attendant said that Melek Gül was at home and told him to leave it at home. That way, he got the door opened. He told me to call him, to call him downstairs. When Melek Hanım said, 'I can't call,' he got angry.
He attacked Melek Hanım. He had brought all the materials to kill us with him, putting them in his bag. According to what he told me, there were handcuffs, a piece of cloth to gag me, pliers to pull out nails, rope, and an axe."
"MY HUSBAND HAS PLACED A RESTRICTION ON MY HOUSE"
Yasemin Ş expressed her deep sorrow for what happened to her neighbor, stating that she could have been killed that day as well, saying, "While experiencing the pain of Melek Hanım's children and husband, the residents of the building told my son, 'Leave this building for your own good as soon as possible.' I came to this building because my financial means did not allow me to do otherwise. Right now, I am under pressure from the building. The house was in my name, but my husband has placed a restriction on my house."
On December 9 in the central Melikgazi district of Kayseri, İlhan Ş went to talk to his wife, who was in the process of divorce, and stabbed Melek Gül, the building attendant's wife, during an argument. The suspect was caught by the police and was arrested by the court he was brought before.
