Efecan Kültür had reached over 156,000 followers on TikTok with his exaggerated eating videos known as the "Mukbang trend" and 12,000 followers on Instagram. The news of Efecan's death was announced by Yasin Oyanık, an Instagram influencer known as "ankaraabisi."
DANGERS OF THE MUKBANG TREND
While the age limit of 16 on social media is being debated in Turkey, the "Mukbang" trend on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok poses a danger to children and young people. Young people aged between 11 and 25 share "Mukbang" videos where they consume excessive amounts of food in order to get "likes" and "views" on social media. These types of excessive eating videos put young people at serious health risks.
