According to a statement from the Russian Investigative Committee, the accident happened during a tour organized for tourists in the Irkutsk region. The vehicle carrying tourists sank into the waters after the ice broke while heading towards Cape Hoboy on Lake Baikal.
8 people, including the driver, lost their lives, while 1 tourist managed to escape from the water on their own. It was reported that the bodies were retrieved from the water by diving teams for identification.
THEY CAME FROM CHINA
The Russian Investigative Committee, which opened a criminal case regarding the incident, reportedly consulted the statements of the surviving tourist, eyewitnesses, and hotel staff where the tourists were staying. It was stated that the tourists in the vehicle came from China.
