The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State announced that the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, has resigned from her position.
The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State stated that "Ambassador Brink is stepping down. She has been serving in a war zone for three years, and that is a long time."
A NAME IS EMERGING
It is still unclear who will succeed Brink, but unnamed sources have indicated that Christopher Welby Smith, the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Eastern Europe in the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, is a leading candidate.
Brink, who reportedly resigned of her own accord, was appointed to the position by former President Joe Biden in May 2022.
ZELENSKY HAD CRITICIZED BRINK
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Brink in a post following a Russian attack in his hometown of Kryvyi Rih, which resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including 9 children, for not explicitly holding Russia accountable for the attack, saying, "Such a strong country, such a strong people, but such a weak response. They are even afraid to say the word 'Russian'."
