U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly instructed an increase in the presence of the U.S. military after declaring a state of emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border.

On his first day in office, the President of the United States declared a state of emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. Orders were given to increase the military presence of the U.S. at the Mexico border.

THOUSANDS OF ADDITIONAL U.S. TROOPS HEADING TO THE AREA

According to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to CNN, an order has been issued to send thousands of additional U.S. troops to support the country's southern border.

Starting this week, only the term "thousands" has been used regarding the number of additional active duty troops to be sent to the southern border, and it has been noted that these troops will assist U.S. border patrol operations and provide support in flow and intelligence at command and control centers.

Officials shared the expectation that more active U.S. troops will be sent to the border in the coming weeks and months following this initial wave.

According to sources from the Department of Homeland Security, it has been reported that the number of irregular migrants crossing the southern border illegally has been around 1,100-1,300 daily recently.

U.S. MILITARY PROVIDING LOGISTICAL SUPPORT TO BORDER PATROLS

Under a law known as "Posse comitatus," which dates back more than a century, active duty U.S. troops do not have the authority to assume the role of law enforcement within the country to detain, arrest, or conduct operations against irregular migrants unless special permission is granted.

Currently, approximately 2,200 active troops from the U.S. Northern Command are on the ground in El Paso, Texas, for additional logistical support.

As part of the Joint Task Force mission, these troops in the area primarily assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection (ICE) with logistical and bureaucratic tasks such as data entry, detection, monitoring, and vehicle maintenance.

Additionally, under the "Lone Star Operation," a National Guard unit of approximately 4,500 personnel is also operating at the border in the state of Texas.
