The United States Postal Service (USPS) plans to lay off 10,000 employees in collaboration with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to "increase the agency's efficiency."

USPS President Louis DeJoy announced that he will work with DOGE to increase efficiency in postal services. DeJoy stated that many of USPS's expenses, from retirement funds to workers' compensation, have been poorly managed, and noted that the DOGE team will help the agency "increase its efficiency" in the face of these issues. In this context, DeJoy plans to lay off 10,000 employees within 30 days through a voluntary early retirement program.

A LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

Approximately 640,000 people are employed by USPS, responsible for deliveries from urban areas to rural regions. After taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump had terminated the jobs of thousands of federal employees through DOGE. As a result of mass layoffs, particularly affecting new hires, many unions and organizations across the country had filed lawsuits against the Trump administration.
