Shortly after US President Donald Trump's statement at the NATO Summit in Ankara, "We will probably strike tonight as well," explosions occurred in the Iranian cities of Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, and Konarak. The US military confirmed it had launched a new wave of attacks to reduce threats in the Strait of Hormuz. Following these developments, the funeral ceremony planned for Iran's former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike, was postponed and was to be held in Mashhad.
Following the statements made by US President Donald Trump in Ankara, where he was attending the NATO summit, successive explosion sounds were heard in Iran. According to the Iranian press, the explosions occurred in the cities of Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, and Konarak.
The US military also confirmed that they had launched a new attack against Iran. In a statement from the military, it was expressed that "attacks were carried out to further reduce Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz."
KHAMENEI'S FUNERAL CEREMONY POSTPONED
Following this development, the funeral ceremony planned to be held in the city of Mashhad for Iran's former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the US-Israeli airstrike, was postponed. Khamenei was planned to be buried at the Imam Reza Shrine.
BODY IN IRAQ
After the widely attended funeral ceremony held yesterday in the Iranian city of Qom, Khamenei's body was brought to the Iraqi city of Najaf during the night. The body was received by Iraqi officials and senior politicians in a ceremony attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Khamenei's eldest son, Mostafa Hosseini Khamenei.
Khamenei's coffin was then carried through the crowds gathered in the streets of Najaf and taken to the Imam Ali Shrine. Following the ceremonies in Najaf, Khamenei's body was taken to Karbala, approximately 60 kilometers north, where another funeral ceremony was held at the shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother, Imam Abbas.
It was reported that hundreds of thousands of people participated in the funeral ceremonies in Najaf and Karbala.
WHAT DID TRUMP SAY?
In his statement, Trump said, "We will probably hit Iran tonight as well. I will warn them a little. This is not war. The issue is ensuring Iran does not have nuclear weapons. We can do it without an agreement. This way is easier. These people lie and deceive." In another statement, the US President said, "I think the ceasefire with Iran is over."
Washington also carried out a series of attacks in Iran yesterday, with reports stating that 80 targets were hit.
