A dispute at a vehicle inspection station in Ankara darkened a family's life. Following a fight that erupted over a simple stoplight argument, police officer Melih Okan Keskin, who was severely injured, lost his life after days of struggling for survival. His grieving wife, Emel Keskin, shared the details of what happened and demanded that everyone who was negligent in the incident be held accountable before justice. Keskin said, "My husband was a father of two. He was a very good person; my two children are now without a father. A part of me is gone."
Emel Keskin, the wife of police officer Melih Okan Keskin, who lost his life after a fight at a vehicle inspection station in Ankara, stated that the incident started with a simple argument over a traffic light and demanded that those responsible be punished to the fullest extent.
Speaking about the incident, Emel Keskin explained that they got married in 2011 and have two children. She emphasized that her husband was a helpful person who never harmed anyone, saying, "He was a very good husband, a very good father."
DISPUTE AT VEHICLE INSPECTION
Keskin stated that on the day of the incident, her husband had an appointment at a vehicle inspection station in Ankara at 4:00 PM on February 2, and they were talking on the phone while waiting in line, and he told her he would pick up the children and come home after the procedures were completed.
After a while, Keskin recounted that her husband called her again, saying, "He called me and said, 'There was a fight here, I was assaulted. I will go to the hospital and get a report.'
"A GROUP OF 20-30 PEOPLE ATTACKED"
Emel Keskin explained that she spoke with her husband while he was conscious in the hospital and described how the incident started with the following words:
"They say that the traffic light was not working when he entered for the inspection. My husband asks a citizen, 'Can you start the car?' and the light turns on. When he goes back inside and says, 'The light is on,' they mockingly respond, 'It didn't work in front of the camera, it doesn't matter. Go come back tomorrow.' After that, he asks, 'Who is in charge?' While talking to a female official, a verbal argument occurs, and then a group of 20-30 people attacks my husband."
Keskin stated that her husband was assaulted again while trying to distance himself from the scene to call the police, and during this time, a vehicle ran over his foot.
SUSTAINED A BRAIN HEMORRHAGE
After the incident, Keskin noted that her husband went to the hospital on his own and that a brain hemorrhage was detected at the hospital where he applied for a report of the assault.
She reported that the first intervention was made at the Oncology Hospital, and then he was transferred to Gazi Hospital, where a CT scan revealed a brain hemorrhage and a shift in the brain.
FOUGHT FOR HIS LIFE FOR DAYS
Keskin stated that the doctors informed her about the risks before the surgery, and her husband was taken into surgery on the night of February 3 and was intubated after the operation. She learned that there was severe bleeding during the surgery and recounted that during the intensive care process, her husband occasionally lost consciousness and asked for water while mumbling her name.
She mentioned that Melih Okan Keskin fought for his life for days and said he passed away on Thursday evening.
"MY TWO CHILDREN ARE LEFT FATHERLESS"
Emel Keskin also reacted to TÜVTÜRK's statement regarding the incident, arguing that there were many people in the footage and demanding that all those responsible be punished.
Keskin said, "My husband was 44 years old, he was a father of two children. He was a police officer. He was a very good person. My two children are left fatherless. A part of me is gone."
