In recent months, it has been claimed that Pizza Hut, one of the world's leading pizza chains, which withdrew from Turkey and started efforts to return to the market, is closing its branches. Pizza Hut has decided to close 68 restaurants and 11 delivery points, which will also result in the layoffs of hundreds of employees.
The world-famous restaurant chain Pizza Hut has decided to close 68 restaurants and 11 delivery points across the United Kingdom. As a result of the closures in cities such as Brighton, Hull, Bristol, Leeds, and Edinburgh, approximately 1,210 employees will be laid off.
While administrators were appointed for DC London Pie Limited, which operates the restaurants, the global brand owner Yum! Brands stepped in to protect the remaining 64 restaurants and 1,276 employees in the country.
RISING COSTS HAVE PUT THE COMPANY IN A DIFFICULT POSITION
The company stated that rising costs and tax obligations have strained cash flow. Matt Callaghan from FTI Consulting said, "Unfortunately, we are working to ensure that the laid-off employees receive the necessary support."
HAD ACQUIRED BANKRUPT RESTAURANTS
DC London Pie had taken over some of the bankrupt Pizza Hut UK restaurants earlier this year. The company also operates Pizza Hut franchises in Sweden and Denmark. In the new structure remaining under Yum! Brands' control, 343 Pizza Hut delivery points will continue to operate across the UK.
HAD WITHDRAWN FROM TURKEY
KFC and Pizza Hut had withdrawn from Turkey at the beginning of the year. However, four months later, it was claimed that the global owner of the companies, Yum! Brands, had started efforts to return to the Turkish market. At the beginning of the year, the company unilaterally terminated its contract with İş Gıda and closed its dealers, and had signed a new collaboration agreement with Value Solution Partners.
