24-year-old Sara Çelik, who underwent hip surgery in Kızıltepe, Mardin, passed away after experiencing complications following anesthesia. Her family filed a criminal complaint alleging negligence against the hospital and doctors.

DIED AFTER HIP SURGERY

Sara Çelik, who managed a wedding hall with her brother in Kızıltepe district and had been struggling to walk for a long time, went to a private hospital with complaints of pain in her left hip bone. On November 1, she was taken into surgery after being diagnosed with a hip dislocation. After anesthesia, Sara experienced complications. It was reported that she suffered a heart attack and her heart stopped, leading to her transfer to Mardin Training and Research Hospital. However, despite all interventions, Çelik could not be saved. Her family filed a criminal complaint, claiming negligence on the part of the private hospital.

"SHE ENTERED THE HOSPITAL ALIVE AND CAME OUT DEAD"

Sara Çelik's mother, Beşire Çelik, expressed her desire for those responsible to be identified and punished, stating, "My daughter was perfectly healthy, she had nothing wrong with her. She only had pain in her left hip bone. We took her to the hospital, they were going to perform hip dislocation surgery. She had no other illnesses. She entered the hospital alive and came out dead. They gave her anesthesia before the surgery, and before the operation started, they said she had a heart attack. My daughter had no heart problems; she was perfectly healthy. There is negligence here, I am complaining, and I leave them to God. May God not leave her rights unaddressed. I am complaining about them. My heart is broken, my daughter is dead, and I don't want anyone else to suffer. That's why I say these negligence issues should not go unpunished. We filed a complaint, and we want the state to take the necessary actions. I just want justice. I cry morning and night. My daughter was perfectly healthy; they killed her. She was my daughter, my friend, my everything. I can't bear it without her. Everyone knows the hardships I went through to raise her. I took care of her like a baby, and I forgive her. I entrust her to God," she said.

"WE WILL FOLLOW THIS TO THE END"

Sara's brother, Ömer Faruk Çelik, stated that his sister lost her life due to negligence, saying, "My sister was going to have hip dislocation surgery. We spoke with the private hospital, and they said it was a 'simple operation' and gave us a date for the surgery. We admitted her to the hospital on November 1. They took her into surgery, and while preparing for the operation, they came to us and said her heart had stopped and to be prepared for anything. Before the surgery started, the doctors were outside drinking tea and coffee. The anesthesiologist was not there; they had left their work to the technicians. They said 'blue code,' of course, we didn't know what that meant. The doctors started running, and then they said my sister had a heart attack. They said they had to cut her throat and put a tube inside. Then they transferred her to Mardin Training and Research Hospital. My sister had no problems; they told us it was a simple operation. We entrusted my sister to them, believing their words. We brought her in alive, and she came out dead. I leave them to my state and to God. There is a doctor working illegally, coming from Bitlis to perform surgeries. They also take cash payments to avoid taxes. We filed a complaint against the hospital, including the doctors. I will follow this to the end; I will not let this go," he said.

"JUDICIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING THOROUGHLY"

The family's lawyer, Yusuf Onay, stated that those found negligent would be punished following the judicial and administrative investigation, saying, "The judicial process regarding the death of Sara Çelik has been transferred to the Kızıltepe Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. We filed a complaint with the Kızıltepe Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate those who were negligent in this incident and to uncover any negligence if it exists. The Kızıltepe Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting an investigation into the incident, and it is continuing thoroughly. We have also filed a judicial complaint. The judicial aspect is being investigated separately, and whoever is found negligent in this matter will be revealed after the judicial and administrative investigation. We are fully confident that these individuals will be punished and that justice will be served," he stated.

In response to the allegations, the hospital director, who spoke with DHA reporters, stated that he was on leave and that the hospital's lawyer was handling the matter. The hospital's lawyer, however, declined to comment on the request for an interview.
