While resignations continue in CHP, New Party Deputy Chairman Yaşar Tüzün announced that 232 mayors have resigned and joined the New Party. Tüzün stated that they expect this number to exceed 300 by the end of the month. Tüzün also said that the membership procedures of most of the mayors for the New Party have been completed.
Yaşar Tüzün, Deputy Chairman of the New Party, provided information at a press conference held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly about the mayors who resigned from the CHP and joined their party. Tüzün stated at the press conference in Parliament that the party's principles for local governments will be shared in the coming days.
NO CHP MAYOR LEFT IN THESE PROVINCES
Tüzün, reporting that many mayors elected from the CHP in the local elections resigned from their party to join the New Party, said, "In the provinces of Afyonkarahisar, Aksaray, Ardahan, Artvin, Aydın, Bilecik, Bolu, Bursa, Çanakkale, Hatay, Karabük, Kars, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale, Kırklareli, Kırşehir, Kocaeli, Kütahya, Malatya, Manisa, Ordu, Osmaniye, Rize, Samsun, Trabzon, Uşak, Yalova, and Yozgat, no CHP mayor remains."
"WE RESPECT ABDURRAHMAN TUTDERE'S CHOICE"
Stating that 17 of the 19 provincial mayors elected from the CHP have resigned and applied for membership in the New Party, Tüzün said, "Of our two provincial mayors who did not resign, our Mayor of Bartın will evaluate with the district mayors next week and make a decision. Only our Mayor of Adıyaman, the esteemed Abdurrahman Tutdere, has chosen to remain in the CHP. We respect his choice."
"232 MAYORS RESIGNED FROM THE CHP"
Providing information about the municipalities in the process of joining his party, Tüzün said, "109 district mayors affiliated with metropolitan municipalities, 54 district mayors affiliated with provinces, and 50 town mayors have resigned. As of this hour today, 232 mayors have resigned from the CHP. The vast majority of them have completed their membership registration for our New Party."
Tüzün stated that they estimate the number of mayors who resigned from the CHP to join the New Party will exceed 300 by the end of the month.
ISTANBUL AND ANKARA QUESTIONED
In response to a journalist's question about "whether meetings were held with the Ankara and Istanbul metropolitan municipalities," Tüzün replied, "We have had no meetings regarding the metropolitan municipalities. They will make their decisions after conducting their own evaluations in due course."
When reminded of the claims that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay and Gölbaşı Mayor Yakup Odabaşı would join the AK Party, Tüzün said, "We hear these names on social media and in the written press, but there is no clear and explicit statement or announcement from them regarding this."
Tüzün held the press conference together with New Party Antalya Deputy Cavit Arı, Aydın Deputy Evrim Karakoz, and Ardahan Deputy Özgür Erdem İncesu.
