The extraordinary neighborhood lodge located in the rural Eski Bahçekaya Neighborhood of Bursa's İnegöl district makes onlookers turn and look again. Built about half a century ago with a unique architecture due to the lack of suitable space within the village, a vehicle road passes underneath the structure. Serving as a meeting point for residents and attracting intense interest from tourists, this historic building stands out as one of only two such rare works in Turkey.
The neighborhood lodge located in the rural Eski Bahçekaya District of Bursa's İnegöl district draws attention with its extraordinary architecture.
A ROAD PASSES UNDERNEATH
Built about 48 years ago because no suitable land could be found within the village, the road passing under the lodge connects Eski Bahçekaya District to the rural Tahtaköprü District. Constructed in 1978 and still in use today after restoration, the structure has become both a meeting point for residents and a frequent stop for tourists visiting the area. Visitors, especially those coming from Oylat, cannot hide their astonishment when they see the road passing under the building.
"THEY BUILT IT THIS WAY DUE TO LACK OF SPACE"
Hayat Nuri Aslan, the headman of Eski Bahçekaya District, said, "In 1978, due to a lack of space in the village, our grandfathers built this here, and we use it as a village lodge. So now we have restored it. For about 50 years, the villagers have been sitting here. They drink their tea, chat. We use it that way. The road connecting to Tahtaköprü is here. It's a road connecting Oylat, Tahtaköprü, and İnegöl. People pass through here. They made it this way because there was no space in the village."
"THERE ARE ONLY 2 IN TURKEY"
Aslan, stating that there are only two such structures in Turkey, said, "One is in the Rize region, and one is here. So, it shows a very nostalgic situation. We had it restored that way. It remains the same due to the lack of space, you see. People are surprised. There are tourists coming from Oylat; they take photos, sit down, drink tea. We continue old traditions. People come, sit, drink tea, and chat. We serve meals every Monday. We have conversations every Friday. Religious talks, regular chats, business talks; businessmen come, scholars come, we sit and discuss. This building will live for many years until doomsday."
"THEY ARE SURPRISED"
Former headman and district resident Selahattin Yılmaz said, "Back in 1978, our elder Cevat Şahin had this built; he was the headman at the time. Because we couldn't find land, the elders had it built together with the mosque at that time. Those coming from Oylat ask, 'How's the road, where does it go?' They stop children and ask. They say, 'Did we enter by mistake? We passed under a house,' not knowing it's a coffeehouse. Tourists from Oylat are so surprised."
