As tensions between the United States and Venezuela have escalated in recent months due to allegations of drug trafficking, over 500 kilograms of cocaine were seized in a major operation conducted in the country. Agents from the Scientific, Criminal, and Forensic Investigations Corps (CICPC) uncovered specially concealed compartments inside a fuel tanker during a raid on the vehicle.
In a period where the U.S. has accused Venezuela of turning a blind eye to international drug trafficking for months, over 500 kilograms of cocaine were seized in a large-scale operation conducted in the country. CICPC teams uncovered specially hidden compartments inside a tanker used for transporting fuel during a raid, preventing a major shipment.
MODIFIED FOR SMUGGLING
The teams drilled into the compartments to access the hidden drugs and reached several kilograms of narcotics.
Authorities stated that the drugs were packaged in brick form with black wrappings and that the tanker had been modified for smuggling purposes. While the tanker driver was taken into custody, the investigation was expanded to reach other individuals involved in the incident.
BORDER AND PORT CONTROLS TIGHTENED
The operation has been recorded as one of the largest drug seizures in Venezuela in recent years. CICPC sources indicated that there has been an increase in shipments made using this method and announced that border and port controls would be further tightened.
As former U.S. President Donald Trump accused Venezuela of being "one of the centers of international drug trafficking" and Caracas denied these claims, the operation has sparked new discussions along the Washington–Caracas line.
