In the investigation regarding the Kaya family, who were killed with a firearm, the claim of "forbidden love" has come to the forefront. The arrested neighbor, M.C., alleged that Mehmet Kaya had a dispute with his wife due to an affair with another woman, and then he killed his wife and daughter before committing suicide. M.C., who confessed to throwing the weapon into the sewer, was arrested along with another suspect identified as having assisted him. Relatives of the family believe that the incident could be a murder due to missing money and gold.

The incident that occurred on the night of November 25 in the Turgut Özal neighborhood of Kızıltepe district in Mardin continues to shake Turkey. Mehmet Kaya, his wife Berna Kaya, and their 5-year-old daughter Samyeli were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads by teams that entered the house upon notification from neighbors.

Initial examination at the house revealed:

  • The weapon used in the incident was not found,
  • No signs of forced entry were detected at the door,
  • Only 2 empty cartridges were found in the house,
  • The parents were found in the middle of the room, while little Samyeli was on the sofa.

Following the incident, the Provincial Police Department established a special team and launched a wide-ranging investigation.

GUNPOWDER RESIDUE ON FATHER AND CHILD

Hand swabs examined at the Diyarbakır Criminal Laboratory revealed gunpowder residue on the hands of Mehmet Kaya and his daughter Samyeli. This finding is considered significant enough to change the course of the investigation.

"I GAVE HIM THE GUN, THEN THREW IT IN THE SEWER"

Shortly after the incident, the family's neighbor M.C. was caught with the weapon believed to have been used in the incident. M.C. was arrested by the court for "tampering with evidence." However, his statement was much more striking. M.C. stated, "Mehmet told me he was threatened, so I provided him with a gun. I was at their house at the time of the incident. He argued with his wife, killed her. Then he killed his daughter. He turned to me and said, 'Don't tell anyone about this, or I'll kill you too.' Then he committed suicide. I took the gun and threw it in the sewer," it was learned.

We expect sensitivity from our citizens and the media regarding this tragic incident for both the family and the deceased."
