In Bolu, four people who set up a table at a dessert shop, ate and drank, and took advantage of the business's busyness to get up one by one as if they had prearranged and disappear, left behind an unpaid bill of 1,100 lira. Speaking after those moments reflected on cameras, the business chef, instead of pursuing the incident, set an example of tradesman solidarity and warned, "We got burned, let our fellow tradesmen not fall into the same trap."
4 people, 3 of whom were foreign nationals, came to a dessert shop in Bolu and left without paying their bill of 1,100 lira for the desserts they ate. The moments when the individuals, taking advantage of the shop's busyness and a brief moment of staff carelessness, got up one by one from the table and fled, were captured second by second on the shop's security camera.
THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE CROWD AND GOT UP ONE BY ONE FROM THE TABLE
The incident occurred at a dessert shop operating on Mehmet Akif Ersoy Boulevard in the Borazanlar neighborhood. A group of 4 people who came to the shop in the evening hours ate the desserts they ordered and spent some time at the table. One of the individuals, who drew attention with their assertive behavior, asked the shop manager where the restroom was. Using the restroom as an excuse, the group members then took advantage of the cafe's busyness, got up one by one from the table, and disappeared. After other customers sat at the vacated table, suspicious staff members checked the security cameras following their questioning of 'Was the bill taken?' and faced the harsh reality.
"MONEY IS NOT IMPORTANT, LET OTHER SHOPKEEPERS NOT BE VICTIMIZED"
Speaking after the audacious theft, shop manager Cahit Yerlikaya emphasized that warning other shopkeepers is more important than the financial loss. Stating that they did not file any complaint with the police regarding the incident, Yerlikaya said:
"Our only purpose in sharing this incident with the public is to prevent our other fellow shopkeepers in Bolu from being similarly victimized. We estimate that three of the individuals were foreign nationals and one was Turkish. We don't know if they did this out of momentary carelessness or if they have made it a habit. We want to prevent such incidents. From now on, we will be more careful and we want all our fellow shopkeepers to be careful as well."
