WHAT HAPPENED IN SERBIA AFTER THE ACCIDENT IN NOVI SAD?
On November 1, 2024, 15 people died due to the collapse of a concrete canopy at the train station in Novi Sad, and students protesting against the government began demonstrations across the country with the slogan "Stop Serbia." Thousands of university, college, and high school students organized large anti-government protests in various cities across the country, especially in the capital, Belgrade.
The students demanded the punishment of those responsible for the deadly accident at the train station, the publication of all documents related to the construction and repair works of the station, which is suspected of negligence, and the release of students and academics who were detained during previous protests. President Aleksandar Vucic stated that the students' demands had been met. Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic also announced his resignation following the protests. The students continue to hold demonstrations across the country, arguing that their demands have not been "fully" met.
