The district governor of Tercan in Erzincan, Neslihan Kısa Duman, has sparked controversy due to walking under an umbrella held by a protection officer; a march was organized in Tercan to support Duman. It was also noteworthy that some citizens participated in the march on horseback.
On February 17th, during the parade held for the liberation day of Tercan district in Erzincan, images of District Governor Duman walking under an umbrella held by his bodyguard became a topic of discussion on social media.
IT HAD SPARKED CONTROVERSY
In the footage, which is said to have been taken during rainy weather and reflects a part of the program, Duman is seen walking under the umbrella held by his bodyguard. After the images were shared, various criticisms were made.
THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR MADE A STATEMENT
In response to the reactions, Duman issued a written statement, indicating that the footage belonged to a rainy moment and that the shared video only reflected a segment of the program. Duman stated that he took the umbrella himself as soon as he realized the situation, saying, "I understand the sensitivity created by the image of a rainy moment. I take responsibility for the impression created by the footage. I would like to express my regret for having occupied the public's attention."
THEY TOOK TO THE STREETS IN SUPPORT
Following the statement, citizens gathered in Tercan and held a march with Turkish flags in their hands. The group, chanting slogans like "Stand tall, don't bend, the people of Tercan are with you," showed their support for District Governor Duman. The march ended without incident.
