Ağrı 1970 Spor, which is in fourth place in the TFF 3rd League, had 17 of its players penalized following a betting investigation. Only 7 players remain in the squad of Ağrı 1970 Spor.
After the betting investigation by the Turkish Football Federation, Ağrı 1970 Spor, which received penalties for 17 of its players, is left with 7 players. The management and technical team are struggling to rebuild the squad to complete the remaining season with reinforcements from the U19 and amateur teams.
17 PLAYERS PENALIZED, ONLY 7 REMAIN IN THE TEAM As a result of the TFF's investigation, players Emre Yaşar, Sedat Yılmaz received a 12-month ban, Emir Aydın, Üzeyir Kaya, Hüseyin Aybars Tüfekçi received a 6-month ban, and Yusuf Akdeniz, Vedat Böyügül, Tayfun Çulha, Muhammet Furkan Kılıç, Ömer Ok, Emircan Sönmez, Ertuğrul Usta, Kerem Yaşa received a 3-month ban. Yusuf İslam Atay, Hivan Özkurt, Emre Özsarı, and Emirhan Alperen Yılmaz received a 45-day ban. Ağrı 1970 Spor Club, whose core squad has been disrupted, is left with 7 players.
'THEY WERE OUR REGULAR PLAYERS' In the 3rd League 2nd group, Ağrı 1970 Spor Club, which has 14 points with 3 wins, 5 draws, and 2 losses in the last 10 weeks, is considering how to play the remaining matches of the league. Technical director Ahmet Özen stated that the team was already built from scratch at the beginning of the season, saying, "We had already formed a team from scratch at the beginning of the season. We went through very challenging processes. Experiencing such an event after playing the 10th week of the league has put us in a difficult situation. It has also harmed many teams like us. Before this incident, we were a team of 24. Unfortunately, 17 of our players received a ban from football after this incident. Some received 45 days, some 3 months, some 6 months, and unfortunately, one of our players received a one-year ban. Eight of these players were our regular players. Right now, we only have 7 players who can play. We have a week left for transfers. During this one-week transfer period, we will try to reinforce our team with players from the U19 and other teams and strive to play the matches again. Therefore, we are currently facing the challenge of forming a squad from scratch," he said.
'THEY WILL APPEAL' Özen stated that many players had played bets 2, 3, or even 4 years ago, saying, "We talked to our players after this incident occurred. What they told us was; 'After the Ankaraspor - Nazillispor match, we understood the seriousness of this issue and learned that it was problematic. Many of us did not play after that match.' Therefore, I hope that the decision-making authorities will reconsider these situations. Because many of our players will appeal. I believe that a decision in favor of our players will also come out there," he said.
13-14 TRANSFERS Reminding that the amateur transfer period will end on November 27, Özen expressed that the narrowing player pool has made transfer efforts more challenging. He stated that they can only add players born in 2005 and later to the squad and noted that their financial conditions are also limited. Özen mentioned that they aim to add 13-14 players to the squad as soon as possible and to compete in the match against Silifke next week.
TEKİN YUŞAN: WE ARE TRYING TO REBUILD THE TEAM Ağrı 1970 Spor Club Vice President Tekin Yuşan stated that they also conducted an investigation after the betting scandal broke out, saying:
"After the contracts we made with our players after August, none of our players played bets. They had played bets among themselves 3-4 years ago. Especially when we transferred them, we asked; they had not played in their own matches, in their leagues, but in other leagues and amateur ones. This process has seriously affected both them and us. From the players' perspective; those who received 9, 6, or 12 months of bans may end their football careers. From the club's perspective, we have paid serious amounts. How will we make agreements with them? Currently, we have 6-7 players left in the club, and we are trying to rebuild the team for the weekend. During this process, we are trying to express ourselves; regarding the players not being involved in the betting incident and also trying to rebuild the team. We are trying to fully participate in training by getting support from teams in neighboring provinces and bringing players from them. Since it is not a transfer period, we are trying to form the team with amateur kids born in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. We currently have a U19 team, and we have also activated it. We will try to bring players from there and from other teams to participate in the matches somehow."
