Two American youths who planned to seize Gonave Island off the coast of Haiti and use the women and children on the island as sex slaves have been apprehended. The duo, who also received military training to carry out their plans, attempted to recruit mercenaries. The captured youths confessed all their plans during interrogation.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that two young men from North Texas have been charged with plotting to invade Gonave Island off the coast of Haiti, killing the men on the island, and enslaving women and children.

LONG LIST OF CHARGES

21-year-old Gavin Rivers Weisenburg and 20-year-old Tanner Christopher Thomas are accused by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas of conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, and producing child pornography in a foreign country. According to the indictment, the duo made plans to gather and manage an illegal expeditionary force on Gonave Island, which is part of the Republic of Haiti, between August 2024 and July 2025.

ALL PLANS REMAINED ON PAPER

Weisenburg and Thomas aimed to kill all the men on the island and use women and children as sex slaves during the period from August 2024 to July 2025. They planned to purchase a sailboat, firearms, and ammunition, and to find individuals to serve as mercenaries for this purpose.

EXTENSIVE PREPARATIONS PROVED USELESS

The duo undertook extensive preparations to implement their plans. They learned the Haitian language and attempted to gather supporters. They enrolled in schools to gain military skills and joined the U.S. Air Force to receive military training.

SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR GAVE THEM AWAY

The two friends were caught due to their unusual behavior during training, which raised suspicions. Following an investigation conducted by the FBI, the two young men were apprehended and confessed their plans during interrogation.

THEY COULD FACE LIFE IMPRISONMENT

Prosecutor Jay R. Combs stated that if Weisenburg and Thomas are found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country, they could face life imprisonment, and for the charge of producing child pornography, each could face a prison sentence of 15 to 30 years.
