During the fight against forest fires, "other volunteers" who lost their lives or were injured, as well as their relatives, will be able to benefit from monetary compensation and monthly entitlements.

The "Regulation on the Amendment of the Regulation on Volunteers Engaged in the Fight Against Forest Fires," prepared by the General Directorate of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette and has come into effect. With this regulation, the definition of "volunteer" has been changed to "forest fire fighting volunteer," and the definition of "other volunteer" has been added to the regulation.

REGULATION WILL BE VALID AS OF JANUARY 1, 2025

In this context, volunteers from organizations such as AFAD and the Turkish Red Crescent, as well as other volunteers created by civilian citizens and their relatives, will also be able to benefit from the rights under the Law on Cash Compensation and Monthly Payments as of January 1, 2025. With this regulation, in addition to forest workers and forest volunteers, other volunteers and citizens who lost their lives during this year's fight against forest fires will also be classified as "martyrs."
