The government is taking an important step against those who misuse the 112 Emergency Call Center. A proposal to increase the fine for those who speak with operators or leave calls with the intention of occupying the 112 Emergency Call Center to 1,500 lira has been submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). If the report is found to be false by the teams that arrive at the scene, a fine of 15,000 lira will be imposed. In case of repeat offenses, the penalty will be multiplied.

The bill titled "Proposal for the Amendment of Certain Laws and the Decree Law No. 375," signed by AK Party members of parliament, has been submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The proposal, consisting of 32 articles, includes administrative fines for individuals who call the 112 Emergency Call Center to engage with operators or persistently leave calls, thereby occupying the line.

29 MILLION FALSE CALLS

In statements regarding the bill, AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler mentioned that approximately 28.46% (29 million) of the nearly 103 million calls received throughout 2024 were found to be false, and in the first three months of this year, 30% of the 14.6 million calls received were also identified as false calls. Güler stated, "Approximately 1% of false calls constitute 'false reports.' This occurs when the teams dispatched to the scene determine that the report is unfounded. Such reports can cause irreparable loss of life by delaying intervention," he expressed.

DOUBLE PENALTY FOR REPEAT OFFENDERS

According to the proposal, individuals who attempt to engage in unnecessary conversations with operators and distract them from their duties by calling the 112 Emergency Call Center will be fined 1,500 lira by the relevant governorships. If it is documented by the teams dispatched to the scene that the report made to the Call Center is false, these individuals will face an administrative fine of 15,000 lira. If the same individuals repeat their offenses within a year, the administrative fines will be doubled. Those who waste the time of emergency response teams by making false reports will also be fined 15,000 lira. For individuals who commit these offenses a second time within two years, the administrative fines will be doubled.
