The CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who was attacked upon leaving the AKM after attending a commemoration ceremony for the Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, made striking statements. Özel said, "I definitely believe that the attack was planned. They should investigate the deputy police chief who did not allow our vehicle to enter the parking lot. Those who incited the attack are sending a message to take your oil and step back from the street."
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked while leaving the Atatürk Cultural Center for a memorial ceremony for DEM Party Istanbul Deputy and Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
"I BELIEVE THE ATTACK WAS PLANNED"
The punch attack on Özel caused an outcry in the public, and the CHP leader used striking expressions while making statements to journalist İsmail Saymaz regarding the attack. Özel said, "I definitely think the attack was planned. It wasn't spontaneous. I was there two hours ago while speaking into the microphones that were extended. And where he hit me... He planned it. In fact, maybe he was waiting to hit me at that moment. He knows I will come. He listens to me with animosity, looking at me badly. He has made preparations. Movements with his hands and arms; as if he was preparing for a competition," he said.
"THEY DIDN'T LET US INTO THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE THEY WERE ANGRY WITH OUR SECURITY"
Özel stated that an unexpected event occurred on the day of the attack, saying, "Our team said, 'They didn't let our vehicle into the parking lot, we will exit from the door we entered.' I said, 'Why wouldn't they let us in?' Deputy Chief of Police Murat Özbek, a little angry with our security, is not letting us into the parking lot. Our team prefers the parking lot for security reasons. They want to take us up and down in the elevator. That's why I need to walk through there (the door). The man is waiting right there; it is very clear that it was a pre-planned job. From the man's preparation, from where he is... I see him while walking, his face is turned towards me. He turns as if to give way, showing his back. He is leaning to the right as if he is going to hit me with a golf club. He is coming quickly and trying to hit. I saw him coming. I reflexively pulled my head back.
"THE ONLY PERSON I APPROACH WITH SUSPICION IS THE DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE"
I do not approach the attitudes of the Interior Minister, the Istanbul Police, and the governor with suspicion. There is one person I approach with suspicion: That deputy chief of police forced us to pass through there. Why wouldn't he let the vehicle in? Every deputy's vehicle enters the parking lot of every official institution. I have been a deputy for 13 years; there is no parking lot I couldn't enter. He says, "You can't enter, you will stay here." He is forcing me to leave. If you ask, "Who forced you to pass through there?" the deputy chief of police did. But I have serious suspicions. Everyone who experienced the incident with me, including my driver, conveys the same thing. They should investigate the deputy chief of police. Our security team, the driver, and our deputies will definitely provide the necessary information. If this is not done, the burden will remain on the state. If this is done, if there is a mistake or a connection, it will come to light.
"THEY ARE SENDING A MESSAGE TO STAY AWAY FROM THE STREET"
This is incitement. Someone is sending me, the CHP, and the opposition a message saying, "Watch your step."
