Ekrem Baki, a member of the Üsküdar Municipality Council, has resigned from the AK Party. Speaking at the podium in the council, Baki stated, "Due to the heavy pressures exerted against the opposition and the increasing intensity of these pressures, which are incompatible with my understanding of both law and politics, I have resigned from the Justice and Development Party to which I belong."
The first session of the Üsküdar Municipality in May was held in the Municipal Council Hall, chaired by Mayor Sinem Dedetaş. Interesting moments occurred during the session.
STEPPED UP TO THE PODIUM AND RESIGNED FROM THE AK PARTY
AK Party Council Member Ekrem Baki took the floor out of the agenda and came to the podium. Baki announced that he had resigned from the AK Party. He will continue as an Independent Council Member.
"PRESSURES ON THE OPPOSITION ARE INCREASING"
Baki stated the following in his speech: "I would like to explain a situation regarding myself, if you allow me. Recently, the heavy pressures being exerted against the opposition in our country and the increasing intensity of these pressures do not give me any indication that things will evolve positively, and for this reason, as it does not align with my understanding of both law and politics, I have resigned from the Justice and Development Party to which I belong."
THE RESIGNATION DECISION WAS MET WITH APPLAUSE
After Baki announced his resignation from the AK Party council membership, applause rose in the hall. CHP council members stood up to congratulate Ekrem Baki.
