Trash Collectors' Strike In English Resort Town Leaves Bins Close To Overflowing

17.10.2021 21:42

Strike set to enter 3rd week as workers seeker higher wages and try to show how important their jobs are.

As a strike by trash bin collectors in the coastal resort town of Brighton, southern England is about to enter its third week, uncollected bins are piling up in every corner of the city.

The industrial action, which started 13 days ago, continued on Sunday, as did talks between the workers' union and local officials at the Brighton and Hove Council.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, local resident Gabriel said the public would probably take the side of the workers, who are trying to prove the importance of the job they do.

The rubbish bins are fully filled almost throughout the entire town, with the council currently using private contractors to try to contain the problem.

Gali Kitz, a local artist, said she is painting over the uncollected rubbish bins as she uses imperfections to create her art.

The bin collectors are demanding a pay raise and are threatening to initiate a 30-day strike if the talks with the local council fail. -
