Germany-based airline Condor Airlines has made a significant route change in its summer 2026 program by canceling its flights to Antalya. The decision was stated to be made in line with the diversification of holiday preferences across Europe and the decreasing demand for traditional holiday destinations along the Mediterranean coast.
Germany-based airline Condor Airlines has made a significant change to its flight schedule for the summer season of 2026.
ANTALYA ROUTE REMOVED FROM THE SCHEDULE
The company announced that it has removed the Antalya route, which it has been regularly flying for many years, from its schedule. The decision was made in light of changes in passenger demand and route optimization efforts. In the company's statement, it was noted that the focus will be on destinations that experience higher demand during the summer period. Accordingly, Condor plans to increase capacity, particularly to destinations such as Greece, Spain, and Balkan countries.
TOURISM PREFERENCES ARE CHANGING, DEMAND FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN IS DECREASING
Although Turkey, especially cities like Antalya, continues to be one of the important centers of summer tourism, the trend of some Europe-based tour operators shifting towards new destinations is noteworthy. According to experts, European holidaymakers' travel preferences have recently shifted towards factors such as cultural diversity, nature tourism, and alternative experiences. This change is also leading to a decrease in demand for traditional holiday regions like the Mediterranean coasts.
THEY HAVE STARTED TO LEAVE TURKEY
On the other hand, it has been observed that some foreign nationals who have been living in Turkey for a long time are also turning to different countries. According to evaluations, some groups coming mainly from Russia and European countries prefer to move to alternative locations such as Balkan countries for reasons such as lifestyle, social conditions, and personal preferences. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), over 50,000 Russian citizens have left Turkey in the past year.
Industry representatives emphasize that tourism and migration movements can change seasonally and that promotional efforts targeting different markets should continue to maintain Turkey's multifaceted appeal.
