U.S. President Donald Trump asked President Erdoğan for help in ending the Russia-Ukraine war. The leaders of the regional countries urged Erdoğan to leverage his influence over Trump, stating, "You are the only Muslim leader that Trump will listen to."
Turkey will intervene for the second time to end the Russia-Ukraine war. According to a report by Yeşim Eraslan from Türkiye Gazetesi, Ankara, which facilitated the exchange of prisoners with scenes reminiscent of movies after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, brought Moscow and Kiev to the negotiating table in Istanbul, bringing them to the brink of peace and signing the Grain Corridor Agreement, will once again take action.
"YOU ARE THE ONLY MUSLIM LEADER TRUMP WILL LISTEN TO"
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who met with AK Party deputies the other day, evaluated the Erdoğan-Trump meeting. It was learned that Fidan said, "We are receiving many requests from regional countries for our President to use his influence over Trump. They say, 'You are the only Muslim leader Trump will listen to. Therefore, convey your views to him.'
SPECIAL REQUEST FROM TRUMP
On the other hand, it has emerged that U.S. President Donald Trump has a special request from Erdoğan. According to information obtained, Trump conveyed his expectations regarding the end of the Russia-Ukraine war to Erdoğan during a phone call on Monday. It was stated that Trump proposed to work together with Erdoğan to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
TURKEY READY TO SUPPORT
Having maintained neutrality by discussing with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Azerbaijan-Armenia war and having turned the tide of war in the Horn of Africa by mediating between Somalia and Ethiopia, Ankara is set to take action again for the increasingly violent Russia-Ukraine war. In this regard, Turkey has communicated to the U.S. administration that it is ready to provide the necessary support to completely eliminate the risk of war in the Black Sea and to establish an environment of peace, stability, and tranquility in its region.
THE COUNTRY THAT TALKS TO BOTH SIDES
In the coming days, it is stated that Turkey may take steps to make the ceasefire process initiated by Putin between May 8-11 permanent. Turkey has continuously pursued diplomatic efforts to end the crisis between Russia and Ukraine in 2022 and brought the parties to the negotiating table in Istanbul. Turkey, one of the few countries that has maintained contact with both countries since the war began, is expected to conduct diplomatic contacts along the Ankara-Moscow and Ankara-Kiev lines. Ankara is expected to convey its call for resolving issues around the same table to the parties.
