Returning to the US after completing his visit to China, Donald Trump made assessments aboard Air Force One. Stating that he and Xi Jinping addressed many critical topics ranging from Boeing aircraft to the Taiwan crisis, from Iran's nuclear capacity to the war in Ukraine, Trump highlighted the risk of Taiwan's independence struggle turning into a violent conflict. Underlining that he made no promises to Beijing, Trump said, 'The last thing we need right now is a war 9,500 miles away.'
US President Donald Trump, following his talks in Beijing, stated that he had a "great visit" and answered questions from the press on the plane. Drawing attention with his trade and security-focused statements, Trump shared the new roadmap regarding the China and Iran fronts.
HUGE DEAL FOR BOEING: SIGNAL OF 750 AIRCRAFT
Trump reminded that China agreed to purchase 200 aircraft from American aviation giant Boeing, and announced that this number could rise to 750. Calling Xi Jinping "a very smart person who loves his country very much," Trump stated that customs tariffs were not discussed during the meetings.
OPEN DOOR ON TAIWAN ISSUE: "THE DECISION IS MINE"
Drawing attention to the risk of the independence struggle in Taiwan turning into a violent conflict, Trump emphasized that he made no promises to Beijing:
"Xi has very firm views on Taiwan, but he avoids the violent conflict that the independence struggle would create. I made no commitment to China regarding Taiwan. Particularly, arms sales were discussed in detail; the final decision on this matter is mine, and I will make my decision soon."
"WE DESTROYED IRAN'S MILITARY CAPACITY"
Arguing that operations against Iran are largely complete, Trump claimed that 85% of Tehran's missile production capacity has been eliminated. Emphasizing that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons, the President said that Xi Jinping also agrees with the US on this matter:
"I don't ask anyone for favors. If you ask for a favor, you have to do a favor in return. We don't need it either; we completely destroyed Iran's armed forces. The Iranians admitted to me that they don't have the technology to stop enriching uranium, and that only we or China can do it."
RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR: "WE WANT IT TO END"
Trump stated that he and the Chinese President comprehensively discussed the Russia-Ukraine War, and that both leaders share a common desire for this bloody process to end as soon as possible.
