U.S. President Donald Trump signed a presidential decree that envisions the closure of the U.S. Department of Education. Trump stated that the department would be completely abolished and that the administration of education would be handed over to the states, calling his signature a "historic step of 45 years."
President Trump of the United States took a historic step for the American public during a signing ceremony held at the White House. Trump stated that the Department of Education, established in 1980, would be completely abolished with the presidential decree he signed.
"A HISTORIC STEP AFTER 45 YEARS"
Trump, who said, "Today I will sign a decree to completely eliminate the federal Department of Education. This is a historic step after 45 years," noted that both Republicans and many Democrats supported this move.
EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION RETURNED TO STATES
Arguing that there is no need for a federal ministry in education, Trump said, "We will return the administration of education to where it belongs, to the states."
Trump explained that the United States is not where it should be in the field of education and that there is much work to be done in this regard, noting that state administrations are already the main elements in the field of education.
"WE ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST IN TERMS OF SUCCESS"
Trump, who stated, "As the United States, we spend significantly more money on education than any other country, yet we are still at the bottom of the list in terms of success," added, "We will take all legal steps to close the Department of Education, but we will preserve some programs for needy or disabled children."
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt also mentioned in her statement regarding the issue that the Department of Education would be gradually closed and that Congress needed to take the necessary legal steps in this regard.
TRUMP HAD PREVIOUSLY TARGETED THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
In a previous statement, President Donald noted that the United States ranks 40th in the world in educational achievement but is 1st in terms of spending per student, saying, "I want the Department of Education to be closed immediately." Trump stated that the employees of the institution were not coming to work because they were all working from home, saying, "These people will be fired. Because we need to downsize our government."
