U.S. President Donald Trump strongly reacted to the Senate's war powers resolution aimed at limiting military steps against Iran. Trump criticized the timing of the vote, stating that the decision complicates his job but he will achieve his goals.
"I HAD IRAN CORNERED"
Trump, speaking on his Truth Social account, argued that Iran was under pressure. Trump said, "I had Iran cornered, they were ready to fall. They were ready to give us nearly everything, and for the first time in decades, they had great respect for the U.S. and its President, me."
REACTED TO SENATE VOTE
Describing the Senate's war powers vote as "badly timed and meaningless," Trump claimed the decision sends the wrong message to Iran. Trump argued that with this move, the Senate sends a message to Iran, which he called the "number one state sponsor of terrorism," that the U.S. is uncomfortable with its own policies against it.
"THEY PROVIDED AID AND COMFORT TO THE ENEMY"
In his statement, Trump harshly criticized the Senate vote, saying the resolution tells him he "should stop." Claiming this gives an advantage to Iran, Trump alleged that the senators "provided aid and comfort to the enemy."
TARGETED REPUBLICAN SENATORS
Targeting the four Republican senators who supported the resolution, Trump stated that these individuals acted alongside Democrats. Trump also claimed that Iranian officials asked his team, "What does this mean?" after the vote. Trump said, "These senators have made my job even harder. But I will get it done somehow because I always do."
SENATE DECISION ANGERED TRUMP
The U.S. Senate had previously passed a war powers resolution aimed at restricting Trump's military operations against Iran. The resolution passed the Senate with support from Republican senators and revealed Congressional discomfort with Trump's Iran policy.
