U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros. "needs to go through a process" and that he would be involved in the decision. Trump mentioned that Netflix has a very large market share and that this deal would further increase it, saying, "This is a big market share; this could be a problem."
US President Donald Trump answered questions from reporters at an event he attended at the Kennedy Center. When asked about Netflix's agreement to acquire Warner Bros, Trump replied, "It needs to go through a process, and we will see what happens."
"NETFLIX'S MARKET SHARE IS VERY LARGE"
Trump stated that Netflix is a "great company" and has done "an extraordinary job," expressing great respect for Netflix's Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, but mentioned that the market share is very large.
"SHOULD IT BE ALLOWED?"
In response to the question, "Should Netflix be allowed to acquire Warner Bros?" Trump said, "That's the question. They have a very large market share, and when they acquire Warner Bros, that share will increase even more." Trump noted that he would also be involved in this decision, stating, "However, this large market share could be a problem."
WHAT HAPPENED?
On December 5, Netflix announced that it had reached an agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery to acquire Warner Bros for a total equity value of $72 billion and a total company value of $82.7 billion, including film and television studios as well as HBO Max and HBO.
