Protests that began due to economic issues in Iran continue on the 15th day, while a notable statement came from U.S. President Donald Trump. Stating that Iran is seeking negotiations on nuclear issues, Trump said, "We can talk to them, but we may have to take action due to the protests in the country before the talks."
While thousands of people took to the streets in Iran citing economic problems, the number of those who lost their lives in the protests rose to 538 on the 15th day of demonstrations.
MORE THAN 10,000 ARRESTS
HRANA reported that at least 538 people have died in protests across the country in the last two weeks, including 490 demonstrators and 48 security personnel. The statement also indicated that more than 10,600 people have been detained.
THE TOLL IS HEAVY
Meanwhile, while no official statement has been made by Iranian officials regarding the death toll, the Associated Press (AP) reported that it could not independently verify the figures related to casualties. HRANA had announced that the latest death toll had risen to 116.
TRUMP: WE RECEIVED AN OFFER TO MEET FROM IRAN
As protests continue in Iran, a surprising statement came today from U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement to reporters, Trump said that Iran reached out to the United States on Saturday to propose negotiations regarding the nuclear agreement.
"WE CAN MEET WITH THEM, BUT..."
"We can meet with them," he said, but noted that the meeting could take place after a U.S. attack on Iran. Trump stated, "Iranian leaders called yesterday to negotiate. I think they are tired of being beaten by the U.S. We can meet with them. A meeting is being arranged. However, we may have to take action due to what happens before the meeting," he said.
PROTESTS IN IRAN
The protests that began on December 28, 2025, by shopkeepers in the Grand Bazaar of Tehran due to the high depreciation of the local currency against foreign currencies and economic problems spread to many cities in the country.
While no official statement has been made regarding those who died or were injured in the protests, HRANA reported in a report published on January 10 (on the 14th day of the protests) that 116 people, including 37 security personnel and 4 health workers, had lost their lives, over 2,600 people were injured, and 2,638 people were detained.
