US President Trump announced that Brett Sylvia, who served as Director of Strategy, Plans, and Policy at the Pentagon, was dismissed on the grounds that he leaked classified information. Trump said Sylvia would "have very big problems," emphasizing that they are pursuing those who leak information.
Trump answered questions from reporters as he left Washington to attend a Republican Party rally in South Carolina for the congressional midterm elections to be held on November 3.
"HE LEAKED CLASSIFIED INFORMATION, HE'S IN TROUBLE"
When asked about developments regarding Sylvia's dismissal by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump said, "Lieutenant General Sylvia leaked classified information at the Pentagon. He is in trouble."
Emphasizing that the Pentagon director would "face very big problems," Trump said, "We are after the leakers, and he will face very big problems. Long-term problems, too."
Trump also described as "terrible" the Democrats in the U.S. Congress carrying out plans to remove Hegseth based on the prediction that they will win the majority in the midterm elections.
The U.S. president said, "All they do is talk about removing everyone. I mean, to be honest, if we wanted to play this game too, we could play it at least as well as they do. But now they are talking about Pete Hegseth. He is doing a great job. He is a real fighter. I think he is the person who has done his job best for many years; many people agree with that."
"I'M DOING QUITE WELL WITH ARAB VOTERS"
Trump said he did not believe that his mocking the name and indirectly the religious faith of Muslim candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who will run for Senate from Michigan in the midterm elections, would cause him to lose the support of Muslim voters.
When asked about this, Trump said, "I'm doing quite well with Arab voters. In fact, let me put it this way: I won Michigan by a large margin and I also got the votes of Arab voters."
Recalling that he did not take sides in the elections in Brazil, Trump said, "But when I see what is happening in Brazil, I can say that it is a disgrace."
Touching on the situation of the markets in Brazil as well, Trump said, "Look at the markets; the markets have virtually collapsed," and assessed that this was "an extremely shameful situation" for the South American country.
Trump also said he would call Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who won the presidential election in Brazil.
