Striking remarks came from U.S. President Donald Trump about the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, who have increased their attacks against Saudi Arabia. Saying, 'The Houthis are doing wrong things, and very wrong things. This situation is not good at all,' Trump stated that he did not take into account the possible impact of the attacks on the U.S. midterm congressional elections.
U.S. President Donald Trump answered reporters’ questions as he left the White House for an election rally he will hold in Ohio.
“THE HOUTHIS ARE DOING THE WRONG THINGS, AND VERY WRONG”
When asked about the Houthis, who have recently increased their attacks on Saudi Arabia, Trump responded, “The Houthis are doing the wrong things, and very wrong. This situation is not good at all.”
Trump also answered reporters’ question as to whether he saw a link between the Houthis’ recent increase in attacks and the U.S. midterm congressional elections, saying: “I don’t know how this will affect the elections. I’m not taking that into account. All I know is that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon and that this has now happened. They will never have a nuclear weapon. But the Houthis are acting wrongly.”
“WE COULD JOIN ATTACKS AGAINST THE HOUTHIS,” HE HAD SAID
Meanwhile, in his response yesterday to a question about whether Washington would join Saudi Arabia in attacks to be carried out against the Houthis, Trump had said, “We could join. We will see the situation. We have just learned of the latest attack; we will make a decision and act quickly.”
HOUTHI ATTACKS TARGETING SAUDI ARABIA
For some time, the Houthis have been carrying out attacks with ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and many other areas.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia (GACA) had announced that 19 people were killed in 10 attacks carried out on 5 airports in Saudi Arabia within a week.
In Yemen, the Iran-backed Houthis have held control of the capital Sanaa and some areas since September 2014.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition forces have been supporting the Yemeni government against the Houthis since March 2015.
