Making striking statements about the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Trump set a factory condition. Speaking at an event of the Republican National Committee, Trump said that TSMC would face a tax of up to 100% if it did not establish a factory in America.
CRITICIZED BIDEN
Trump also criticized former President Biden, finding the decision to grant a $6.6 billion subsidy for the facility established by TSMC in Arizona to be wrong. Trump stated, "Semiconductor companies do not need money. I did not give them money. I just said this: If you do not establish your factory here, you will pay a large tax."
TSMC'S $100 BILLION INVESTMENT IN THE US
In a statement made at the White House in March, TSMC announced its plan to invest a total of $100 billion in the US over the coming years. The company aims to establish five new semiconductor facilities in Arizona as part of this plan.
