US President Donald Trump said that in the negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, they are closer to an agreement than ever before, and said that no sanctions would be imposed on Moscow while the talks continue. Emphasizing that he does not regret the decision to go to war with Iran either, Trump used the words, "I think this is one of the best things we have done."
US President Donald Trump answered reporters' questions on current affairs as he left the White House for an election rally he will attend in South Carolina.
"FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME, WE MAY BE THIS CLOSE TO AN AGREEMENT"
On the other hand, Trump, referring to his latest conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that the negotiations they are conducting with Moscow are going well.
The US President assessed, "We are currently negotiating with Russia on Ukraine. For the first time in a long time, we may be this close to an agreement. When you are close to an agreement and conducting very sensitive negotiations, perhaps it is very close to an agreement."
Recalling that some circles in American public opinion expect the US to impose sanctions on Russia in this environment, Trump said, "You do not impose sanctions in this situation while conducting negotiations."
"ARE YOU SORRY ABOUT GOING TO WAR WITH IRAN?" HE ANSWERED THE QUESTION
When answering a question along the lines of "Are you sorry you went to war with Iran?", Trump said, "No. I think this is one of the best things we have done. We prevented Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons."
Noting that previous presidents did not take such a step, the US President argued that if he had not gone to war with Iran, Tehran "would have already possessed nuclear weapons and would have used them."
“I AM SURE RUSSIA DID NOTHING IN THE IRAN PROCESS”
Trump commented, "Russia's influence in the Iran process was very small; of course, they could have done much more, but I am sure they did almost nothing. This is also a point you need to take into consideration."
Trump also mentioned that Stephen Hubbard, a US citizen released by Russia, is currently on his way and that they thank Moscow for this, and said they are also pleased that Russia did not intervene in the war process with Iran.
The US President also stated, in response to a question, that he had no involvement in the Starlink company owned by Elon Musk restricting the internet it provides to the Ukrainian army.
Trump stated, "I have nothing to do with this matter. I don't know who is involved."
