The co-chair of the DEM Party, Tülay Hatimoğulları, called for the reading of the Quran in Kurdish and delivering sermons in the public sphere at the Congress of the Mesopotamia Islamic Research Federation. Hatimoğulları stated, "Political Islam is preventing our funerals from meeting the soil."
The 1st Ordinary Congress of the Federation of Islamic Researches in Mesopotamia has started at the Sezai Karakoç Culture and Congress Center. Tülay Hatimoğulları, who spoke at the congress, stated that the federation is carrying out important work, saying, "I wholeheartedly celebrate this work. Because this work is what our geography needs."
"POLITICIZED ISLAM..."
Hatimoğulları argued that after the early Islamic period, colonial powers brought religions and beliefs into conflict in the Middle East and Africa. Claiming that imperialist systems were established through sectarian wars, Hatimoğulları stated, "For centuries, our blood has been shed in this geography, and unfortunately, politicized Islam is the forerunner of this while our blood flows."
"DEMOCRATIC ISLAM LINE MUST STRENGTHEN"
In her speech, Hatimoğulları emphasized the importance of bringing Islam together with the values of "peace and tranquility" on a democratic ground. She expressed that this work is significant not only for Turkey but for the entire Islamic geography.
"KURDS SHOULD BE ABLE TO READ THE QURAN IN KURDISH"
Hatimoğulları stated that worship should be conducted in the mother tongue, saying that it should be possible to read the Quran in Kurdish and to give sermons in Kurdish. Claiming that there have been interventions in funerals and condolences, Hatimoğulları said, "Kurds should be able to read the Quran in Kurdish and give sermons in Kurdish in public spaces. Respect must be shown to the deceased in these lands. But unfortunately, this state understanding, adorned with the existing political Islam, does not allow this. It prevents our funerals from meeting the soil. In quotes, this is called terrorism. They tell the imam that you cannot read the prayer for this person, you cannot perform the prayer. They do not provide a funeral vehicle. They intervene in our funerals. They do not allow burial. They say go and bury at night with five family members. This is unacceptable. Respect for the deceased comes first."
EMPHASIS ON EQUAL CITIZENSHIP
Hatimoğulları stated that true peace and justice can only be achieved with the establishment of a legal basis for equal citizenship, expressing that peace and democratic laws must be implemented.
