While wishes for social peace and tranquility across Turkey continue to hold their place on the agenda, the rhetoric used at ceremonies held in various provinces continues to spark debate. Most recently, DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, speaking at a condolence tent in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, used divisive language targeting the territorial integrity of both Turkey and regional countries.
THAT STATEMENT DREW REACTION
In her speech at the condolence tent, Hatimoğulları used the phrase "the geography of four-piece Kurdistan" and said, "May the Kurdish people rest in peace. They fell to the ground so that the Kurdish people could live with their heads held high in this geography. Those who fell to the ground joined the struggle for the Kurdish people, who have been ignored for a hundred years, saying, 'No, Kurds exist. They are the ancient people of this geography.' As a result of this struggle that has continued for 50 years, no one can deny the Kurds anymore."
SHE HAD MADE A SCANDALOUS REMARK BEFORE
Tülay Hatimoğulları had also made a controversial statement in recent days, saying, "When Erdoğan said, 'Stop occupying Palestine,' Netanyahu said, 'You too, stop beating the Kurds, stop having them beaten.' In the end, when you make a call for peace, it has no effect as long as this problem continues in Turkey."
ÖMER ÇELİK'S REACTION WAS HARSH
The response from the AK Party camp to these statements from the DEM Party wing was not delayed. AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, reacting to this attitude targeting the party and the government, stated, "It is instructive that the initial statements of the DEM Party Co-Chair unfairly and baselessly target our party and our government."
