Construction work continues on the synthetic football pitch under development by Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality at Avni Aker Public Garden. The area, which stands as Turkey's first sports-themed public garden, is being transformed into a modern sports facility where children and young people can train.
In the region where the Avni Aker Stadium, which keeps Trabzon's deep-rooted sports culture and football memory alive, and Yavuz Selim Field, one of the symbols of amateur sports, are located, the grass field previously used as an event area is being converted into a synthetic football field. With the synthetic grass field project, it is aimed to keep Yavuz Selim's amateur football tradition alive. It was stated that the work will be completed and opened for service by the end of August or the beginning of September this year.
Within the scope of the project, which has an investment cost of approximately 13 million 253 thousand liras, the synthetic grass field, measuring 45x90 meters where children aged 8-14 can play football, will also include substitute benches for the use of athletes.
''WE AIM TO REVIVE THE SPORTS SPIRIT'' Stating that they aim to revive the nostalgic atmosphere and sports spirit of Yavuz Selim, Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department Head Yahya Çavdar said, "Our Nation's Garden is the first sports-themed nation's garden in Turkey. This area is an important location where Avni Aker Stadium, which keeps Trabzon's deep-rooted sports culture and football memory alive, and Yavuz Selim Field, one of the symbols of amateur sports, are situated. We started work here on the instructions of our Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç to transform the grass field, previously used as an event area, into a space where especially our children and youth can train and play football. After completing the tender, we started construction at the beginning of June. Excavation and drainage works are now complete. The contractor company is continuing the production of synthetic grass. Hopefully, next week we will complete another important stage by laying the field covering. We will open the synthetic football field, built in accordance with the sports-themed identity of our Nation's Garden, for service shortly. Thus, we aim to revive the old nostalgic atmosphere and sports spirit of Yavuz Selim. The work is progressing rapidly as planned. We plan to present the field to the service of Trabzon football, Trabzon sports, and all our citizens at the end of August or the beginning of September. Within the scope of the project, we will also reopen the existing approximately 330-meter running and walking path, making it more comfortable. While preserving the primary function of this place, we aim to carry Yavuz Selim's historical spirit and sports culture to future generations," he said.
THE AMATEUR FOOTBALL SPIRIT WILL REVIVE IN TRABZON Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department Head Özgür Kara stated that efforts to activate Yavuz Selim Field are ongoing to revive the amateur football spirit in Trabzon, saying, "Our field measures 50x90 meters. Its project was prepared entirely to serve athletes aged 14 and under, its tender was carried out, and construction works are nearing completion. It will be opened for service soon. Yavuz Selim Field holds an important place in Trabzon's sports and football culture. One of the most important goals of our Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç was to reintroduce this area to the city's sports life. Our efforts to activate Yavuz Selim Field to revive the amateur football spirit in Trabzon continue," he stated.
