While Turkey is battling forest fires, fires broke out in Hatay and Mersin. In the forest fire that occurred in the Hassa district of Hatay, teams intervened; due to the fire in the Silifke district of Mersin, 3 neighborhoods were evacuated.
While Turkey is fighting forest fires, new forest fires have broken out in Hassa district of Hatay and Silifke district of Mersin.
With the impact of extreme heat, news of forest fires has been coming from many parts of Turkey for weeks. Most recently, the fire in Çanakkale reached serious dimensions, while new fire reports have emerged.
FOREST FIRE BREAKS OUT IN HATAY
A forest fire broke out in the Seyranyeri Plateau of Eğribucak Neighborhood in Hassa district of Hatay in the evening hours.
Upon the notification of the locals, firefighting teams from the Forest Regional Directorate were dispatched to the area. Efforts are ongoing to control the fire, which has grown rapidly due to the wind.
THREE NEIGHBORHOODS EVACUATED IN MERSIN
In Silifke district of Mersin, a fire broke out in the forested area around Balandız and Kırtıl neighborhoods for an undetermined reason. Due to the fire spreading over a wide area with the effect of the wind, Kırtıl, Balandız, and İmamuşağı neighborhoods were evacuated as a precaution, and the evacuation of Çamlıca Neighborhood has also begun.
190 PEOPLE EVACUATED
Mersin Governor Atilla Toros visited Silifke district, where forest fires broke out at three separate points, to conduct inspections. After receiving information from the authorities, Governor Toros stated, "Following the evacuation of Kırtıl, İmamuşağı, and Balandız neighborhoods due to the fire, Çamlıca Neighborhood has also been evacuated as a precaution. The fire is being fought with 9 air vehicles, 122 ground vehicles, and 344 personnel. So far, 190 people from 90 households have been evacuated. Our citizens will spend the night in guesthouses in Silifke district. There are currently no injuries or fatalities in the fire."
ROAD CLOSED
Meanwhile, the Silifke-Gülnar road has also been temporarily closed to traffic. Transportation is being provided via the Silifke-Beşçatal-Gülnar route.
