According to data from the National Institute of Statistics of Tunisia for the first half of 2025, economic relations between Tunisia and Turkey have gained momentum. Statistics indicate that imports from Turkey amounted to 564 million dinars in the first half of 2024, and this figure increased by 22.7% in 2025, reaching 692 million dinars.

The foreign trade data of Tunisia for the first half of 2025 revealed that economic relations with Turkey have gained an upward momentum.

According to the data from the Tunisian National Institute of Statistics, the country's total exports during the January–June period amounted to 31 billion 773.7 million Tunisian dinars, while imports reached 41 billion 674.2 million Tunisian dinars. Compared to the same period last year, exports decreased by 0.6% nationwide, while imports increased by 4.3%.

NOTABLE INCREASE IN IMPORTS FROM TURKEY

During this period, Tunisia stood out with an increasing import rate from Turkey, which accounted for 4.9% of total imports among suppliers outside the European Union. Imports from Turkey rose by 22.7% to reach 692 million dinars, up from 564 million dinars in the first half of 2024. Exports also increased by 42.8%, rising from 117 million dinars to 167 million dinars. Tunisia increased its trade volume with Turkey by 26.1% in dollar terms, reaching 2.530 million Tunisian dinars in the first six months of this year.

HERE ARE THE SECTORAL DATA

In the first six months of 2025, Tunisia recorded an increase of 11.2% in the mining, phosphate, and derivatives sector, 6.2% in mechanical and electrical industrial products, and 0.4% in the textile-ready-to-wear and leather sector in exports.

Energy exports decreased by 36.3%, while food industry exports fell by 19.1%. In imports, investment goods increased by 17.6%, raw materials and semi-finished products by 6.2%, and consumer goods by 11.6%. In exports, energy products decreased by 16.3%, and food products fell by 2%.

STEPS TO INCREASE BILATERAL TRADE

The trade volume between Turkey and Tunisia exceeded 1.6 billion dollars in 2023, capturing a strong growth trend. To maintain and enhance this momentum, dozens of organizations aimed at increasing trade have recently been organized under the leadership of the Turkish Embassy in Tunisia and the Turkish Ministry of Trade.

As part of commercial activities, including many B2B business forums, hundreds of business people from Turkey visited Tunisia.

Economic indicators and diplomatic contacts clearly indicate that Turkey and Tunisia aim to diversify and deepen their trade volume in the upcoming period.
