Turkish national aircraft manufacturers Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) and Baykar have been included among the world's top 50 aerospace companies.

In a compilation conducted by Counterpoint Market Intelligence on behalf of the global aviation publication FlightGlobal, the largest 100 companies in the sector were listed based on their activities in 2023.

The information used to prepare the list was compiled from the companies' annual reports and publicly available documents.

QUICKLY COMPENSATING AVIATION LOSSES

As one of the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, civil aviation has experienced a significant recovery, with its largest players Boeing and Airbus reclaiming their top positions on the list.

Boeing secured the first place on the list with sales figures of 77 billion 794 million dollars. Airbus followed with 70 billion 829 million dollars.

RTX, which primarily focuses on aviation solutions for the defense industry, followed with 68 billion 920 million dollars, Lockheed Martin with 67 billion 571 million dollars, and Northrop Grumman with 39 billion 290 million dollars, trailing Boeing and Airbus.

On the list, GE Aerospace ranked 6th with 31 billion 770 million dollars, Safran 7th with 25 billion 107 million dollars, L3Harris 8th with 19 billion 419 million dollars, Leonardo 9th with 16 billion 549 million dollars, and BAE Systems 10th with 14 billion 757 million dollars.

Among the significant players in the sector, Rolls-Royce stood out with 14 billion 210 million dollars in 11th place, Bombardier with 8 billion 46 million dollars in 16th, Thales with 5 billion 777 million dollars in 21st, and SpaceX with 4 billion 543 million dollars in 28th place.

SOURCE OF TURKISH COMPANIES' SUCCESS

Two companies from Turkey made it to the list of the largest 100 aerospace companies in 2023. TUSAŞ ranked 38th, while Baykar, which entered the list for the first time, found its place at 49th.

TUSAŞ, which offers platforms such as ANKA, AKSUNGUR, ATAK, T70, HÜRKUŞ, and GÖKBEY to users both domestically and internationally, continues to develop air platforms like ANKA III, HÜRJET, and the National Combat Aircraft KAAN. With a sales figure of 2 billion 674 million dollars in 2023, TUSAŞ achieved the success of being among the top 50 companies in the aerospace industry.

TUSAŞ AND BAYKAR FOCUS ON EXPORT

TUSAŞ's R&D investments and high-tech solutions have increased the company's competitiveness, while exports to friendly countries and structural product deliveries to civil aviation companies have strengthened the company's revenues and its position worldwide.

Baykar made a strong entry into the list with a sales figure of 1 billion 805 million dollars. Holding the title of the armed unmanned aerial vehicle exported to the most countries with the Bayraktar TB2, Baykar added this success to the Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA in 2023. As the world's largest UAV exporter, Baykar has been the export champion in Turkey's defense and aerospace industry in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

In recent years, Baykar has generated more than 90% of its revenue from exports, with 97.5% of its currently signed contracts aimed at exports. Baykar has signed export agreements with 35 countries for the Bayraktar TB2 and Bayraktar AKINCI, using these revenues to develop the Bayraktar TB3 and Bayraktar KIZILELMA platforms.
