On the set of TRT 1's beloved historical series Mehmed: Fetihler Sultanı, a rare and astonishing event occurred that made viewers say, "No way." World and European champion national wrestlers Taha Akgül and Rıza Kayaalp, who joined the shoot as guest actors, overdid their strength a bit in the conquest scene. The massive castle gate, weighing approximately 1 ton, which they were supposed to ram with shoulder strikes and a battering ram according to the script, couldn't withstand the power of the two champions and was torn from its hinges.
An interesting incident occurred during the filming of TRT 1's highly followed series "Mehmed: Conqueror of Conquests." Two national wrestlers, Taha Akgül and Rıza Kayaalp, who were guests on the show, dislodged a castle gate weighing approximately 1 ton by shouldering it as per the script. Due to the unexpectedly broken gate, the production team had to alter the shooting schedule, and the scene in the episode airing this week was re-edited.
1-TON CASTLE GATE COULDN'T WITHSTAND
During the series' filming, Taha Akgül and Rıza Kayaalp rammed the castle gate prepared for the conquest scene with a battering ram, causing the gate to unexpectedly break off. After the powerful impact, the massive gate toppled toward them, creating brief panic on the set.
"IT WASN'T A STUNT, IT WAS REAL"
Describing the incident, Turkish Wrestling Federation President Taha Akgül stated that the gate breaking was completely real, saying, "Of course, Rıza and I are national athletes. Thank God, we have strength and power. When we charged at the gate, it broke. So it wasn't a stunt; it was real."
"WE PUSHED A LITTLE TOO HARD"
National wrestler Rıza Kayaalp highlighted the excitement during the shoot, saying, "We were supposed to hit the gate with the battering ram and open it. With that determination and excitement, I guess we pushed a little too hard. The gate suddenly came off and collapsed on us."
SCENE RE-EDITED
Due to the damage to the castle gate, the production team had to modify the shooting schedule. It was learned that after the adjustment, the relevant scene was re-edited and will be presented to the audience in a different way in the episode airing this week on TRT 1.
