TRANSPORT HALTED, SERVICES CANCELLED
In statements from the British Transport Police and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, it was reported that a large-scale rescue operation was initiated following the accident south of Bedford.
Rail operator Thameslink announced that all train services between Luton and Bedford had been suspended in both directions from 17:30 local time. The company warned of severe delays and numerous cancellations throughout the evening.

Knapp said, "I felt as if I was in the middle of a bomb explosion. There was smoke everywhere. I saw faces covered in blood and people with what looked like broken legs."

The passenger, who stated he was injured in the accident, said he had difficulty sitting due to back pain but that his overall health was good. Knapp, who said he was following the rescue efforts from the road beside the train tracks, added, "I must be very lucky to be alive. But we were at the very front, and I can only imagine what condition the driver is in right now."
