The Competition Board approved the joint venture to be established between Nestlé’s bottled water business and entities affiliated with US-based investment company Platinum Equity. Erikli, which Nestlé acquired in 2006, will also be part of this structure. The new company, expected to be named Peranel, will also include the Perrier, S.Pellegrino, Acqua Panna and Nestlé Pure Life brands.

An American partner is coming to Nestle's water business, which owns Erikli, one of the largest players in Turkey's packaged water market. The Competition Board approval required for the partnership has been obtained.

COMPETITION BOARD GAVE APPROVAL

The Competition Authority announced its merger, acquisition and exemption decisions taken on October 8 and 15 in the fields of energy, food, insurance, banking and portfolio management. According to the decisions, the Competition Board allowed the establishment of a “full-function” joint venture between Nestle S.A.'s packaged water business and the investment structures managed or advised by Platinum Equity Advisors and ultimately controlled by Platinum Equity.

FIFTY-FIFTY PARTNERSHIP

Nestle had agreed with US-based investment company Platinum Equity for approximately 50 percent of its global water operations. According to the agreement, the new water company will be established with a 50-50 partnership structure. The amount of the agreement was not disclosed.

ERIKLI IS ALSO INCLUDED IN THE NEW COMPANY

Nestle had entered among the largest players in Turkey's packaged water market by purchasing Erikli in 2006. In the new company, which is expected to be named Peranel, the brands Perrier, S.Pellegrino, Acqua Panna and Nestle Pure Life will also be included alongside Erikli.

NESTLE WILL FOCUS ON COFFEE AND BABY FOOD

Nestle's water business had recently been the subject of environmental debates and investigations due to practices related to water treatment in France. It is stated that the company plans to focus on its main business areas such as coffee, baby food and pet products.

FIRST PIZZA, NOW WATER

In June 2023, the Competition Board had also allowed the joint venture established by Nestle with PAI Partners for its frozen pizza business in Europe. According to the Board's decision, both parties had equal shares and control rights in the joint venture established in Luxembourg. The venture did not have any activity in Turkey.
