A.K., who was arrested for killing retired Nurettin Ateş in Hatay by throwing a paving stone at his head, was released under judicial control in the first hearing. The Ateş family, reacting to the decision, objected for the suspect to be re-arrested.
In an incident that occurred on February 22, 2025, in the Harbiye neighborhood of Hatay's Defne district, A.K., who is claimed to have a mental disability, argued with retired Nurettin Ateş (63) for an unknown reason while he was walking on the street.
KILLED THE MAN WHO PULLED A KNIFE ON HIM WITH A CURBSTONE
During the escalating argument, Ateş advanced on A.K. with a knife. A.K. picked up a curbstone from the ground and threw it at Ateş's head. Seeing Ateş collapse, A.K. fled. Upon notification from bystanders, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Ateş, taken to the hospital by ambulance, died 5 days later despite doctors' intervention.
RELEASED
A.K., taken into custody by the police, was arrested after being referred to the courthouse. A lawsuit was filed with the indictment prepared regarding the incident. At the hearing held on June 2, A.K., who appeared before the judge, was released under judicial supervision. The Ateş family, objecting to the decision, demanded the suspect's arrest.
