The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, reacted strongly to the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, who used the expression "those who attacked our security forces with axes" regarding the students arrested during the İmamoğlu protests. Özel said, "What axe? What a liar! What a shameless man. Not a single one of the students had an axe; there was no such stick, there was no stick."
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin answered questions from the press before the AK Party group meeting. Minister Tekin stated regarding the students who were arrested during the protests that started after the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, "Those who participate in protests with axes or similar actions that we cannot explain legally and democratically against our security forces, who strive to ensure that our society lives in a safe environment in Turkey, are being detained. These individuals terrorize the democratic rights of other participants."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to Minister Tekin's statements during his visit to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu at Silivri Prison today.

Özel said, "We want freedom for the youth. We want them to take their exams. They are picking up people who have never held a stone and have participated in protests from their homes, and then they say they are 'armed with axes.' There was not even a stick in the hands of the students. What axe? Liar man! Shameless man! What axe?"
